THANKSGIVING AND THANKFULNESS

THANKSGIVING AND THANKFULNESS

Do you ever feel like you need to just quiet your mind and take stock of all of the good things in your life? There are many times when the negativity of the outside world can drown out all of the positives, and in those moments I like to do a sort of gratitude meditation to reset my frame of mind.

So, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I wanted to share with you all some of the things that I’m most thankful for this year. It’s truly been a year of blessings, opportunities, and adventures. Of course, there have been downs as well as ups, but focusing on the positive magnifies those vibes tenfold, so that’s what I’m choosing to do today.

One of the foremost things that I am grateful for is my amazing daughter Poppy. She’s growing up so fast, which is alternatively terrifying and tremendous. I swear she’s going to be 16 and driving if I blink too fast. But watching her grow and learn to navigate through the world around her is one of the most awe-inspiring things I’ve ever experienced. She’s a constant source of light in our lives and it is so joyous to spend our days with her when she’s not in school (seriously, where did the time go??).

When Nate and I aren’t completely enthralled by our daughter, we have the honor of continuing to change lives and bring warmth and comfort to families through the second season of our television show, Nate & Jeremiah by Design on TLC. I am so proud of this show and the work that our entire cast and crew has put into the simple, but overwhelmingly gratifying, task of bringing people out of their money pits and into their true homes. It is one of the things I’m most thankful for this year, as we continue this journey.

Our new house has also been a source of both peace and gratitude. For years, we’ve been bouncing back and forth from Los Angeles to New York, and our homes have always felt somewhat temporary. It wasn’t until we found and started renovating this new house that it finally felt like we were, for lack of a better term, home. This space feels like the puzzle piece that was missing from our lives — it’s the place where we will raise our family, share our dreams, fight over pizza, and laugh until we cry. The good, the bad, and the ugly: it’ll all happen here in our home.

And lastly, I’m incredibly thankful to have found a new outlet of creativity in making pottery. Walking into my first ceramics class, I had a strange feeling that my life would never be the same, and I was definitely right — I mean, I built a whole pottery studio after that! There’s something amazing about the feeling of the clay on your hands, the imperfect perfection of the finish product, and just the simple opportunity to create something. I’m so obsessed with everything about it, and I’m excited to be able to share more about my experiences and creations with you all in the future.

So those are the parts of my life that I’m choosing to focus on during this season of giving thanks. I encourage all of you to clear out all of the negative noise this week, and to pick out a few things in your life that are purely, simply, and completely good. Take a little time to mediate on your gratitude for those things. I can promise that you’ll feel just a little bit lighter, even after feasting on your turkey dinner. Happy Thanksgiving — I’m so grateful for all of you.
